Catch your breath and count your blessings

A crying baby…

I forgot how stressful a crying baby can be. A baby can’t tell you if they are hungry or tired, or wet or uncomfortable – all they can do is cry. And when you’ve tried everything, it’s easy to see how some mothers ‘lose it.’ I’m sure we’ve all watched the shows on Dateline or 20/20 of the mom or babysitter who shook their baby and something devastating happened. I know I’ve watched those and said “how can that happen?”

It can happen because as new moms we are hormonal, emotional, sleep deprived, and trying desperately to do the right thing.

I thank God that I have a wonderful support system to call on when I need a breather, or just to talk. I called my mom this morning at work just to hear another adult voice – and it felt great. 🙂

Luke is sleeping “like a baby” now – and so this gives me time to reflect, grab a bite to eat, take care of myself and recharge my batteries.

If there are any new moms or dads reading this – just know, you are not alone!

Anyone who has had kids has been there. It is the most amazing and awe-inspiring time of your life, but it can also be the most trying. Take my advice, if you find yourself getting stressed, but the baby down in a safe place, and walk away for a moment to catch your breath…. and count your blessings. 🙂
